Course outline

What your child learns in Noorani Qaida

Seven steps, taken in order. The teacher moves on only when the current step is read correctly, so good habits form from the first lesson.

  1. Arabic letters and their makharij

All the letters of the Arabic alphabet, recognised by shape and pronounced from their correct point of articulation.

  2. Joined letters

How each letter changes shape at the start, middle and end of a word, and reading letters joined together.

  3. Short vowels (harakat)

Fathah, kasrah and dammah, and reading short syllables smoothly.

  4. Tanween

The double vowel marks and the “n” sound they add at the end of a word.

  5. Long vowels (madd letters)

Alif, waw and ya as long vowels, standing vowels, and stretching sounds to the right length.

  6. Sukoon and shaddah

Resting letters (sukoon) and doubled letters (shaddah), including letters with both a shaddah and a vowel.

  7. Reading practice and first Tajweed signs

Putting everything together on short words and lines, with the basic stopping and Tajweed signs, ready for Nazra.

What students can usually do

  • Say every letter correctly

From its own makhraj, without mixing up similar sounds.

  • Read joined words

With the right vowels, tanween, sukoon and shaddah.

  • Be ready for Nazra

Our founder checks reading before moving the student on to the Quran itself.
